Dd Class - Under Construction

Nearly ready for painting, these pictures show the Bachmann 10 wheeler before and after conversion to a Dd, the changes being mostly visible with those sections of the original used being black. Changes not so apparent are the narrowing of the tender, shortening the cab floor length, simplifying the valve gear and replacing the lead bogie wheels with wheels closer to scale.

  1. Hi Andrew,

What model do you use in the conversion as I am looking to build a D3 and this looks like a good place to start.

    Thanks,

    Peter

    1. Hi Peter, it's the Bachmann 10 wheeler as noted in the text. There are two versions, this was the one with the larger wheels & higher footplate. Cheers, Andrew

  2. Hi, great work.

I'm curious as to how you made the dome and funnel, as well as how you narrowed the tender?

    Best regards,
    Will

  3. Hi William, thank you. The funnel was modified from the one Bachmann supplied by addition of a top ring and building the flare up in modeling putty. From memory the dome was a recycled bomb or wing tank from an old aircraft kit, rounded down a great deal! The tender was an entirely new fabrication in thin styrene with rivets marked in. I don't think I narrowed the tender chassis but it is some time ago, so may have. Thank you again for your interest. I have a Facebook Group you are welcome to join if you want to follow modeling in that way, bit easier to converse: https://www.facebook.com/groups/AndrewCollierModellingHOVictorian/?ref=bookmarks Cheers, Andrew
